Four convicts, Akshay Thakur, Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma, have been executed for the brutal gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old student on a bus in New Delhi in 2012.
All four were hanged at the Tihar jail on Friday, March 20, more than six years after being convicted of raping and killing the woman, known as “Nirbhaya.” After their conviction in 2013, three of them appealed their death sentence to India’s top court, the Supreme Court. All appeals were denied, including mercy pleas to India’s President Ram Nath Kovind.
Advocate AP Singh, who represented the convicts in the case, triggered off a controversy while demanding a movement that could lead to the establishment of a Commission or a Ministry of Men. According to a report in The Print, the lawyer quoted,
Approximately 50 to 175 men commit suicide daily in India. Most of them are tired of the women in their lives.

The portal also reported how Singh had spoken about his daughter “if she moved around with her boyfriend at night and premarital sex”. He had then commented of dousing and burning his own daughter with fire. Singh had spoken about this, with a reference to the circumstances leading up to the December 16 gang-rape of Nirbhaya.

Taking strong objection to the convicts’ lawyer’s comment on clubbing the Nirbhaya issue with Men’s Commission, MyNation Hope Foundation, has issued their statement on the same.
MyNation Hope Foundation is a not for profit organisation, pioneer and defender of Men’s Rights in India, with an extensive presence on social media. Founded more than 15 years with over 10,000 families registered, guiding, mentoring and assisting them to oppose false gender biased cases like Dowry, Domestic violence and other similar cases against husbands (men) and their families. Here is their statement:

Smriti Irani Responds To Men’s Rights Activist Sharing Her Views About Gender Biased Laws
We declare, that any person or organization, supporting/promoting proven criminals of rape or any other heinous crimes, linking this with Men’s rights and demanding men’s commission, are not part of this great movement. We oppose any such association. Our objective is establishing and implementing Gender Neutral laws. We neither condone nor support criminals against either gender, who put humanity to shame. Those who commit such heinous crimes deserve punishment as laid down by law by adopting due process after thorough investigation by an independent and unbiased investigating authority. The law, as laid down should be applied impartially and equally irrespective of gender.Any person or organization who supports such criminals, found guilty by a Court of Law, basis irrefutable evidence presented during the judicial process and seeks empathy for such persons, by fallacious claims of infringement of Men’s Rights or raises demands for Men’s Commission, in his capacity as one of the stake holders of the movement, is strictly condemned. Any such person or organisation who tries to hijack the genuine voice of Men for their fame and gain must be called out. We urge all other MRAs to do likewise. Our objective is to establish of a Ministry for Men / Men’s Commission and thereby enforce Gender Neutral laws that speak and work for the other gender, i.e. Men, along the lines of the one for women, The National Commission for Women. We also aim to seek justice for those women (Mother/Sisters of a Man), who are also genuine victims of crimes by women, but somehow do not fall under the ambit of NCW.
Having said the above, we do oppose media trials supported by women organisations, to claim funds from the Government, who demand hanging or encounters, when several heinous crimes by women are conveniently ignored.
There are many instances of #mentoo being mutilated and murdered by women, in most cases by their own wives, however, the punishment meted out to them is not commensurate with the act. Thus we oppose all such biased laws and step motherly policies of the government.
We once again affirm, that MyNation Hope Foundation strongly opposes any person or organization, supporting/promoting proven Rape Convicts in the name of Men’s Rights.

Men’s Day Out is also of the similar view that while hanging and death punishment can be debatable on lines of Human Rights, the same cannot and should not be mixed with Men’s Rights. We had issued our statement on this matter a few day before quoting,
Many people are questioning hanging of #NirbhayaConvicts This can surely be a debate for #HumanRights but don’t club the matter with #MensCommission By associating the rapists with innocent Men, you are only bettling the genuine sufferings of the latter #NirbhayaVerdict
