Woman Waters Artificial Plant For Two Years; Later Realises It Was Fake

Artificial plants can be really pretty and instantly uplift your home’s decor, however, maintaining these can be quite a tedious task.

So when one woman recently picked up a fake plant for her living room, she religiously watered her ‘perfect’ succulent for two years. Recently she has discovered it was fake all along. The woman said she kept her green plant alive on the kitchen window for all these years, and she would regularly clean the leaves.

But she was left shocked when she realised the plant she adored so much turned out to be plastic after she decided it was time to re-pot it on February 28. Through her post on Facebook, the lady said,

I’ve had this beautiful succulent for about two years now. I was so proud of this plant. It was full, beautiful colouring, just an over all perfect plant.

I had a watering plan for it, if someone else tried to water my succulent I would get so defensive because I just wanted to keep good care of it. I absolutely loved my succulent.

Today I decided it was time to transplant, I found the cutest vase, that suited it perfectly. I go to pull it from the original plastic container it was purchased with to learn this plant was fake. I put so much love into this plant. I washed its leaves.

The woman said she only made the discovery when she found the succulent attached to Styrofoam with sand glued to the top.

Tried my hardest to keep it looking it’s best, and it’s completely plastic. How did I not know this. I feel like these last two years have been a lie.

Her story was re-shared in an Australian indoor plant group which led to several other narrating similar encounters with artificial plants. Another woman said,

My cousin did this. She kept watering her mum’s plant for months before she discovered it was fake.

One more lady said how she fooled her friend at work by putting up a fake plant. She quoted,

My friend at work always kills the plants because she doesn’t water them, so I put a fake one in the cafe. She watered it for a month before I told her it was fake.

Another woman said,

My dad watered one of my mum’s plants for a year after she died not realising it was fake. We had a good laugh about it, I bet mum had a good chuckle upstairs too.

And yet another female expressed,

When I was a beginner plant owner my mum gifted me a fake succulent but I thought it was real and this has happened to me, took me months to realise it was fake.

Luckily, the plastic plant – which convincingly resembles a hoya linearis – hasn’t been affected by the mishap and still drapes down the woman’s windowsill.
