The Assam government has come up with a new scheme wherein the parents’ of girls of the state will be given 10 grams of gold during their daughter’s marriage.
The state government will be providing this benefit under the Arundhati Gold Scheme.
The objective behind this scheme is to reduce ‘burden’ off the shoulders of parents whose daughters are getting married.
Know the Scheme
Parents who are getting their daughters married can avail the Arundhati Swarna Yojana scheme, however, they have to be eligible to fulfil some criteria.
The scheme is offered only to parents who are getting their daughters married at or after the age of 18. The groom in this case also needs to be above the age of 21-years of age. This is a basic requirement.
Thereafter, only the families with an annual income of less than Rs 5 lakh are eligible for the same. Daughters can apply on the day of registration of Marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.

This scheme will be offered only for the first two offsprings in a family. Daughters can avail of the same only for their first marriage.
The bride and the groom both must have passed at least HSLC or equivalent except Tea Tribe including Adivasi communities of the state. No minimum educational qualification is required in the case of Tea Tribe including Adivasi communities for the next five years, as most of the Tea Gardens in the state of Assam do not have high school facility.
According to Assam State Government, this will go a long way to help poor parents cope with the expenses of weddings. This will also give some financial security to daughters.
