The body of a four-year-old boy child was recovered from a deep pit in the Aurangabad district of Bihar. The boy had been earlier kidnapped and the accused appeared to have killed the child and dumped his body in a pit, due to fear of being identified after kidnapping.
The incident has been reported from the Uphara police station area of Goh block district. Investigating officers reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported. A large crowd of villagers gathered, as the news of child’s body being recovered spread.
The deceased boy has been identified as Dhairya Kumar. The locals were insistent on local police demanding the investigation to be held by a senior officer and also calling in the dog squad.
Case:
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday night, when the criminals injured the maternal grandmother, Manju Devi, and later kidnapped the child with a knife. The injured woman is currently undergoing treatment at Patna where her condition is said to be critical.
Local people have been angry with the administration for the repeated criminal activities including murder, in the village. Earlier in December last year, a textile businessman was shot and killed.
Father’s Version
According to the father, the child was born at Bengaluru in Karnataka. However, due to ongoing separation from his wife, the child was in sole custody of his mother since 2018. She had later shifted the custody of the child to her mother in Bihar. The father quoted,
My son was kidnapped on Sunday and his dead body was recovered on Tuesday. I only learnt about my child’s death on Wednesday from my wife’s uncle. I was not even informed about this by any local authority or local police.
This incident raises serious questions on sole child custody being awarded only to mothers. Shared parenting for separated couples should be made mandatory, where both mother and father can be responsible for the welfare of their biological child.
