Every year, November 19, is celebrated as IMD, where we recognise Contributions of Men towards Family, Country and Society at large. However, while most corporate organisations celebrate Women’s Day with great pomp and fanfare, they often overlook to balance this gesture for their Male employees.
We are sharing with you, one standard email draft that you can send to your respective HR Heads/Teams to make them aware of this day, so they can plan accordingly. The below has been drafted by Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, who will be releasing her upcoming documentary #IndiasSons shortly.

I would like to bring to your attention that November 19th is International Men’s Day. In recent years, there’s been a lot of awareness and celebration on women’s day which is great but very few people are even aware of International Men’s Day, forget the celebration of it.
International Men’s Day (IMD) is globally celebrated annually on November 19 to recognise and celebrate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of men. It is an occasion to celebrate boys’ and men’s achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to nation, union, society, community, family, marriage, and childcare. The broader and ultimate aim of the event is to promote basic humanitarian values, as well as awareness towards men’s issues.
Contrary to popular opinion that men can never have any issues or problems or they don’t face any violence or harassment or abuse, there are a lot of men in India who are suffering from many problems but don’t speak up about it. A lot of it is because there is a huge stigma around men talking about their problems.
Today a lot of men are victims of domestic violence by their partners, are implicated in false cases and don’t find any recourse, are dealing with mental health issues due to problems at office or home, are subjected to abuse & ridicule, are committing suicide more than ever before and we should discuss about it for a truly equal and inclusive society.
I would urge you to kindly organise an event in the company where we can not only celebrate our male achievers but also urge them to speak up if they’re facing any issues.
An equal society is that where contributions of all genders are respected, cherished and recognised and where everyone is heard if they’re subjected to abuse.
I believe that you’ll consider this request and organise something on International Men’s Day.
