A woman constable and her partner, who is also a policeman, were arrested from the Palghar area in Maharashtra for allegedly killing her 35-year-old husband and faking it as an accident. Besides these two accused, three others have also been arrested by Palghar police in the matter.
Case:
Pundalik Patil, a rickshaw driver, was found dead in Dhekale village in Manor on February 18. The post-mortem report revealed that Patil had died of multiple head injuries after being hit with a heavy object.
A murder case was registered and an investigation was launched by Sub-divisional Police officer (Palghar) Vikas Naik along with the local crime branch unit. Initial doubt of foul play arose after police found the body of the deceased in the rear seat of his autorickshaw.
During the probe, it came to light that the victim’s wife Snehal Patil, a police constable in Vasai, was in a relationship with her colleague Vikas Pashte, also a constable posted there.
However, when the victim learnt about their affair, he objected to it. According to police, Snehal allegedly gave Rs 2.50 lakh to Pashte to kill her husband. Pashte hired three people, identified as Swapnil Govari, Avinash Bhoir and Vishal Patil, to execute the murder.
On February 17, the trio travelled in Pundalik’s auto to Dhekale and upon finding a suitable deserted spot, attacked him with iron rods in his head. Pundalik died on the spot, following which they overturned the rickshaw to fake it was an accident.
Snehal with batch number 513 is attached to the Palghar district police. As reported by Mid-Day, the cops said Snehal was the main conspirator.
The police tracked down the suspected killers after going through footage of several CCTV cameras and thousands of call records. Snehal’s role became clear after the police arrested Paste, Govari and Bhoir.
Snehal’s paramour Paste was attached to the Vasaigaon police station. He used to do the paperwork for an inspector. Govari works as an outsourcing agent for the Maharashtra State Electricity Board, while Bhoir is an electrician.
All the five suspects were produced in a court on Wednesday which has remanded them in police custody till March 13.
