A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district spent 13-months in jail on charges of kidnapping his wife and harassing her for dowry. However, after more than a year, on November 09, the UP Police has nabbed the wife from Etawah, where she was living with her paramour.
The husband alleges that the accused wife had eloped with jewellery worth Rs 3 lakhs approximately two-years ago.
Case:
Deepu Gond, son of Rajendra Gond, lives in Masona village of Jianpur Kotwali area. On June 11, 2019, he was married to one woman named Ruchi, daughter of Magru Gond, resident of Choti Dadi village of Mau. Deepu used to sell vegetables and earn a living by selling sugarcane juice on a handcart.
According to the husband, everything was fine for some days after marriage. But soon, the wife was often seen speaking to someone over the phone regularly. This led to frequent quarrels between the husband and wife. Within few days, Ruchi left her husband and shifted to her maternal uncle’s home.
Subsequently, a panchayat was held where both families assembled at Jianpur Kotwali to sort out the matter. After agreements on both sides, Ruchi returned to her in-laws’ home to reside with her husband.
However, according to Deepu, within a week of coming back, his wife once again left home on September 20, 2019 and this time she fled with jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh. A formal complaint was registered by the husband at the police station this time.
Husband & Family Charged With Dowry Allegations
On the other hand, as soon as Ruchi disappeared, her mother Maya Devi gave an application at Jianpur police station alleging that her daughter was harassed for Dowry by her husband Deepu, father-in-law Rajendra Gond and sister-in-law Vinita. On September 27, 2019, a case was registered under Section 498A, 364 of the IPC and under Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Husband Sent To Jail For 13-Months
Following the FIR, husband Deepu was immediately arrested. He was presented in the court and sent to jail. Deepu remained in jail for 13-months. However, he only got bail from High Court in 2020, after spending more than a year behind bars.
According to Deepu, his father had to sell their land in order to procure bail in the alleged false case by wife.
UP Police Nabs Wife
All through his arrest, Deepu repeatedly pleaded not guilty. It is only after receiving bail, he requested local police to trace the whereabouts of his wife.
This time police learnt that the woman who was allegedly kidnapped by her husband, was living with her boyfriend in Etawah.
SSI Chandrashekhar Yadav reached the location and took both Ruchi and her paramour into custody. Deepu Gond has demanded action against mother-in-law Maya Devi and Ruchi’s maternal uncle Niranjan for filing false cases against him and his family.
