Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh has been witnessing a lot of bloodshed amidst Lockdown 4, and thus local police has constituted a special team who will be keeping a watch on lovers as well as couples in illicit relationships.
In one instance a girl invited her boyfriend home on pretext of meeting him, where her father and brothers attacked and killed the man. In another report, a woman ganged up with lover and murdered her elder sister. Also, there have been instances where wives have got together with their paramours and murdered the husbands brutally.
While all accused have been nabbed and sent to custody, these instances are surely spoiling the fabric of our society. Citing several of such heinous crimes, the local police has now set up an exclusive team who will be keeping a watch over such couples who are into extra-marital affairs, to keep the same in check.

Sarai Mir police station in the district is one of them that has witnessed many such cases in the past one month. Mukesh Ram, a father of four and married for ten years, was one such victim. His wife, Kusum was in an illegitimate relationship with one Kalandar Ram from the neighbouring village. A week ago, Mukesh caught his wife along with her lover red handed. The wife and her lover decided to eliminate Mukesh, and Kusum was so vindictive that she waited to hear her husband’s last scream over the phone, until he was crushed to death.
Another matter reported from Ahiraula police station from the same district pertains to the murder of a woman by her own sister. Her only fault was that she had caught her younger sister in a compromising position with her lover. Third crime was registered at the Bardah police station in Azamgarh where the woman invited her married partner and got him murdered by her own father and brothers.
After several such cases in succession, Prof Triveni Singh – Superintendent of Police, Azamgarh said,
To keep such cases in check, we are constituting special teams who will be watching and monitoring any such activities in the future. We shall be keeping a tab on such relationships and husbands will have opportunity to alert us in case they sense any threat from wives who are living in adultery.
However, the officer did admit that this will be a challenging task for his team.
