In a horrific and most tragic incident reported from Sonipat in Haryana, an entire family of husband and his parents has been wiped out, due to an alleged false dowry harassment case filed by the daughter-in-law of the home.
Husband, his father and mother, ended their lives by consuming poison, after they were released on bail by court in the dowry matter.
Case:
25-year-old Ankit (husband), 51-year-old Dinesh (father) and 48-year-old Brijesh (mother) were residents of New Mahavir colony in Sonipat. Due to Ankit’s ongoing matrimonial dispute, all three family members consumed poison and died by suicide. While the neighbours rushed them to nearby hospital, none of them eventually survived.
Police was then called in, who reached the spot and started investigation.
Background:
Ankit was married to one Dolly, who hailed from Chanchal Park in Nazafgarh, Delhi, around four-and-a-half years ago. They have a three-year-old son. Ankit was working with Amazon but had lost his job during the Covid-induced lockdown.
The woman had filed a dowry harassment case against her husband and his parents, while she was living at her paternal house since a long time. After the trio managed to be released on bail from the court, they ended their lives together a day later, on Thursday.
Dinesh’s brother Anil has accused Dolly and her family members for being responsible and instigating his family to take this extreme step.
Anil, in his complaint to the police, alleged that Dolly and her family members — Suresh (father), Madhu (mother), Sachin, Amit and one more (brothers) — were allegedly torturing Ankit and his parents and they had even registered a false dowry complaint against the trio. Fed up with the day-to-day torture, they took the extreme step, he alleged.
Inspector Neeraj Kumar, SHO, Civil Lines, said the bodies had been handed over to victims’ kin after the autopsy. A case has been registered against seven persons, including Dolly and a probe is on, reported The Tribune India.
Speaking to News18, a police officer said that the three came out of jail on Wednesday after getting bail. They had been booked for allegedly mentally and physically torturing Ankit’s wife. A police officer stationed at Sonipat district police headquarters said,
Ankit’s wife had lodged a complaint against the three for mentally and physically torturing her for not meeting their dowry demands a few months back.
The officer added,
The police had registered an FIR against Dinesh, Brijesh and Ankit under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Dowry Act and had sent them to jail.
According to the SHO they reached the hospital on learning about this family suicide case. Speaking to News18, one of the officers quoted,
We have registered a case of unnatural death. No suicide note was recovered from their house.
