A 22-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly ‘honey-trapping’ and filing fake rape cases against several men, police said. She has been denied bail by Gurugram court on Monday and sent to 14-days judicial custody.
Background:
Ayushi Bhatia, reportedly a student of BA (hons), confessed to have accused eight men of rape and got cases filed against them. The woman’s mother and another man identified as Narender Yadav involved in the racket are on the run, ACP (crime) Preet Pal Singh Sangwan said.
The matter was brought to the fore after one of the male victims reached out to Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, an independent journalist, who fights for the cause of Men. After Bhardwaj alerted, State Commission for Women in Haryana, their chairperson Preeti Dalal Bhardwaj directed the state DGP to form an SIT in October last year.
After her arrest, Ayushi was presented at the Gurugram court, where she was denied bail. The court noted,
Accused Ayushi Bhatia produced before the undersigned by jail authorities. An application for remanding her in judicial custody for 14 days is filed. In view of the above application for judicial remand for 14 days is allowed and accused is remanded to judicial custody and be produced before the court on 12.01.2022.
An application for bail moved on behalf of accused Ayushi Bhatia. Notice of the application be given to prosecution. Reply to the bail application be filed on 03.01.2022. Prosecution is directed to specifically mention how many cases are pending under trial against the accused in the reply itself.
On Monday, Ayushi’s bail has been dismissed.
