Phagwara Man Dies By Suicide Accusing Wife, In-Laws Of Humiliation & Child Alienation

Yet again suicide of a married man has been reported from Punjab, who hanged himself alleging harassment from wife, mother-in-law, father-in-law and another member of wife’s family. The deceased left a video on his mobile phone sharing details why he was ending his life.

Case:

Manpreet Singh, son of Charanjit Singh, resident of Avtar Nagar Palahi Road in Phagwara died by suicide within 6-years of marriage. 

According to the complaint given to the police by victim’s father, Manpreet was married to one Parimaljit Kaur in 2015 and a son was soon born to the couple. Manpreet and his family were living separately. As per reports, Parimaljit had gone to her village for the festival of Raksha Bandhan (August) along with their son, but did not return. Four days before his death, Manpreet, along with his maternal uncle’s son, went to his wife’s village Bhitewada, to fetch them. 

Allegedly, Manpreet’s wife, mother-in-law Ranjit Kaur, along with an unknown person, insulted him and made several disrespectful statements, that hurt Manpreet’s respect and honour. The suicide video also stated how his mother-in-law and wife did not allow him to even meet with their son, Dilbar. 

Manpreet later returned disappointedly to Phagwara and shared these details with his mother. However, victim’s mother never thought that her son would take such an extreme step. 

Police Action

After Charanjit Singh’s statement, police has booked wife, mother-in-law & unknown person (related to wife’s family) under:

• Section 306
• Section 34

Police had sent the body for post-mortem and also seized the video clip recorded by Manpreet Singh on his mobile phone before he died. According to the police, Manpreet has made several serious allegations against his wife and in-laws in his last video. While the investigation is on, no arrests had been made until October 07, 2021.
