Society is prompt to react and start calling names when they just read a misleading headline against Men. Most of us do not attempt to read the article or watch the video in detail, since our hate towards men is supreme — even bigger than the issue itself.
Such was the case with Bollywood actor Parineeti Chopra, where she not just jumped the gun but also abused the ‘son’ with regards to a news report published by Mumbai Mirror.
On July 6, Mumbai Mirror tweeted a report from Bengaluru, where an 80-year-old ailing woman was dumped on the roadside by her son and daughter-in-law after she handed over to them Rs 20,000 that she had earned begging. The woman asked the couple to take her to hospital as she was facing problem in breathing. However, she was dumped on the road and forced to stay at a tea stall for three long days. Read Full Report.

However, despite the print report reading “dumped by son and daughter-in-law“, Mumbai Mirror handle chose to pen the headline on the video as “Son abandons octogenarian mother on the street”.

Many were prompt to retweet and comment on the same. However, one prominent tweet which went viral was that of Chopra, who chose to demonstrate her angst, even without reading the article — or perhaps her rage was selective not to equally call out the woman. Parineeti tweeted,

The tweet went viral with 1k Retweets and nearly 8k Likes on the same. Men’s Day Out was one of the first to call her out and we stated,

National Commission For Women (NCW) reached out to the old lady and on July 7 they clarified the matter and the action taken. NCW India wrote,
After Chairperson @sharmarekha took note of the woman’s plight, @NCWIndia was informed by #DCP, #Bhongir, #Telangana that the woman’s family was summoned and it was found that she had walked out from her home after a fight with her daughter-in-law. The old #woman is now safe.
Adding further that the report of son taking away her money and dumping her on the road was false, they quoted,
She was handed over to her grandchildren in the presence of #Nalkonda #LegalServicesAuthority, #DistrictWomenWelfare officials and a few NGOs. The allegation of her son taking away all her money and dumping her on the road was found to be untrue.

One may understand that the actor missed reading the initial report, however, she has chosen to ignore several clarifications posted by social media users under her comment — perhaps because abusing Men in the name of Feminism may get some eyeballs rolling.
Will Parineeti now use similar language for the daughter-in-law once the truth in the matter has been revealed? Will Gender Biased Media ever face any action against misleading headline and false reports against Men?
