In an extremely shocking incident reported from Nagpur, Maharashtra, over a thousand cops spent five long hours, looking out for the accused across the city, after a 19-year-old girl filed a complaint on Monday about her abduction and gang rape.
As the hundred different cops’ team went through CCTV footage from 250 locations, they came across irrefutable evidence that the entire story had been concocted.
Case:
A resident of Fetri, approached the Kalamna police station on Monday and informed them how she was abducted in a white-coloured Omni van from the tony Ramdaspeth area around 10am. The girl also said that she was on her way to music classes in the area when the abduction happened. She then described the two masked men who took her to a secluded place in Kalamna, where she was gang raped and left to fend for her own.
Police Action
The Nagpur cops swung into action and their first port of call was to scan CCTV footage based on the girl’s statements. Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar told the media that the girl had alighted from a bus near Moonlight studio and then took an auto towards Rani Jhansi Square and then on to Mayo hospital where she got off. From that hospital, she took another auto to Chikli (Kalamna) and then went on to Kalamna police station.
40 Police Teams Checked 180 CCTVs
The entire incident took up enormous time and efforts and the commissioner of police also put 40 teams on the job to check nearly 180 CCTV cameras. 110 cameras were checked on junctions and 70 other private cameras were scanned as well.
After searching every single camera at all locations and nearby shops for five long hours, the police concluded that the story was cooked up and there was no rape that happened.
False Gang Rape Case
With solid CCTV footage as their evidence, the girl confessed that she had made up the story.
Kumar said that the girl did this because of some “personal issues”. As per sources, the girl had a tiff with her lover, who was planning to marry someone else. The girl is enrolled in a well-known city college located in the heart of the city.
The commissioner of police has ordered inquiry and appropriate action in the matter.
