A day after celebrating his 45th birthday, a teacher from Rajasthan drowned himself after jumping into the Fateh Sagar Lake, Udaipur in Rajasthan, in the wee hours last Friday.
Case:
- Kota resident Umesh Chaturvedi, son of Anil Kumar, taught mathematics at a private coaching institute at Hiran Magri Sector 3
- Umesh had gone out on Thursday, December 26, to celebrate his birthday along with his children
- However, next day on early hours of Friday morning, Umesh reportedly sent a message to his colleague at 3:20am, asking him to take care of his kids
Before committing suicide, Umesh wrote,
“Final destination Fatehsagar Lake, last chhatri”
Primary investigation revealed that Umesh took this extreme step because of family problems. There was constant lack of co-ordination between him and his wife and he had left his home angrily on the fateful day after a quarrel with her.

During the police investigation, they also recovered a long message Umesh sent to his father, where he confessed he was committing suicide because he was unable to bear the torture and humiliation from his wife Bharti and her mother. The heart-wrenching message read:
My wife and her entire family have been humiliating me terribly for past three days. A small tiff between a husband and a wife has been brought to this stage now after planning, to an extent that it has become unbearable for me. I endured all the insult and did not reply back because of the values given by you so that I do not disrespect elders however, Bharti, her brother and family has used abusive language for me and you (father)and crossed all the limits of modesty.
SP Kailash Chandra Bishnoi also revealed that in the note, Umesh had instructed his father not to allow his wife or her family to touch his mortal remains. The professor’s colleagues fondly remembered him as a jolly person. The manager at his coaching centre quoted,
He was a good teacher and had a cool temperament. I don’t that he was under any depression, it could be only some problem behind such an act.
Currently, Umesh’s family has not registered any official complaint against Bharti and neither there has been any arrest for the allegedly accused woman.
