Journalist Barkha Dutt is back in the news — herself — with her latest stunt on Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s media coverage. After working with NDTV for 21-years, Barkha quit the channel in 2017, worked with Tiranga TV (backed by Congress’ Kapil Sibal) and now runs her own YouTube channel, Mojo.
Dutt has recently sparked controversy with her latest video interview with late Sushant Singh Rajput’s supposed therapist Susan Walker. The actor passed away by alleged suicide in June, leaving his family and fans across the country devastated.
In the interview, Susan opened up about the late actor’s mental health condition, even claiming that he had been suffering from bipolar disorder.
Late Sushant Singh’s family has called out Barkha for this coverage. Sushant’s brother-in-law, Vishal Kirti, on Sunday, slammed Dutt for her insensitivity towards the case and also her lack of professional ethics in reporting the death of Sushant. Dutt, who a day earlier tweeted how she was ‘ashamed’ with the reportage on the matter by other media channels, broadcasted an entire interview with Sushant’s therapist divulging confidential medical records of the actor saying that he had bipolar disorder.
Following this interview, Vishal lashed out at Dutt stating how Sushant Singh Rajput’s death was not an opportunity to spread awareness about mental health.

Besides several other things pointed out by Vishal, he also slammed Barkha for bringing in the misogyny angle in Justice for Sushant’s mysterious death. Kirti stated that he too was a feminist and cared about women’s issues, but calling criminal charges against Rhea Chakraborty as ‘misogynistic’ was an incorrect assessment of the situation. He wrote,
My first point is that caring about women’s issues is not incompatible with filing criminal charges against a female suspect.
On August 2, Dutt had tweeted,
Yep! Well said. Anyone notice… no men under attack.. . On twitter. On TV… So telling….

On July 31, Dutt had called out other media channels for ‘trivialising mental health, privacy and personal relations.’ While she garnered lot of praise this day, the same people condemned her for putting out Susan Walker’s interview immediately the next day, exposing her alleged hunger for ‘twisting the narrative’ or perhaps simply grabbing more ‘YouTube views’ for her channel. She then wrote,
Vomit inducing coverage of Sushant Singh’s Rajput on television channels. Trivialization of mental health issues, privacy, personal relations- and now oh, the brazen misogyny. Ugh. Ashamed I was once part of this medium.

Amidst all the backlash she received for her hypocrisy on the matter, we decided to bring to you a recap how Dutt had run a detailed interview with the Rohtak Sisters in 2014, where she had pronounced the young boys guilty. Barkha had also hailed and praised the con sisters, without bothering to find out the other side.
In the NDTV interview back then, Dutt can be seen saying,
Young women took on men who tried to sexually assault them. These women set an example for other women and are ‘sisters of steel’. They could have thrown acid at you……
When boys misbehave with girls, only latter are asked to behave instead of men.
She also each time praised the con girls saying…“Well Said….” Trying to spike more outrage on the ‘alleged’ incident, she even questioned the sisters on how there was just one supposed ‘pregnant woman’ who tried to stop the boys from harassing them. She further went on to ask,
What was going on in your mind whether these boys will ever be punished? The bus driver and conductor are also going to be punished, how were they behaving? You are in Haryana, Khap panchayats are famous for their orthodox mindset….are you also pressurised by your parents with such restrictions?
When one of the sister said…’put these restrictions on the boys’, Dutt laughed and said…..“Bilkul sahi….”. That’s her definition of equality!
When other sister further said how she had never worn a suit, Dutt rebuts,
Why so? By that logic you would not be liking the Khap panchayat at all. Good you don’t watch any news about Khap on TV.
These incidents happen with all of us, with you, me…..all women…what is the message to all girls?
Dutt also did not interject or question the girls, when one of them said, how women should teach men a lesson even before any court proceedings and first be satisfied themselves. She also concludes patting the girls how they were able to protect themsleves better than the police. Barkha ends the show with,
Congratulations to the ‘sisters of steel’.
BARKHA DUTT’S ONE SIDED BIASED COVERAGE ON ROHTAK SISTERS
THE OTHER SIDE
Now, watch the Other Side that was exposed and what the boys had to say in the matter. Independent Journalist Deepika Bhardwaj had met with several others, who were also trapped by these same Rohtak con sisters in the name of empowerment — ultimately blackmailing them.
Harish Ahlawat recognised these fraud girls after their videos went viral in the media. He narrated how he too was trapped similarly by them on the road, but was saved because his wife was with him then.

Another boy named Sumit shared their ordeal after being trapped by these same girls. His father said they had to settle the case for Rs 20,000. Sumit also said how police only listens to girls and that had to say sorry to end the matter. After the incident, Sumit’s father stopped his education to avoid any such false matter in the future again. Three more boys were falsely accused in the same manner, but none of them had any evidence of giving money to these ‘Sisters of Steel’ and the matter never reached court.
Now coming to the main bus case when these girls were exposed, there were negotiations between these sisters and families of the boys too. They demanded scooty for each of them.
Many more families too came forward sharing how they had been duped of lakhs of rupees by these girls else they were threatened of false cases. Rajesh Kumar, father of these girls had borrowed Rs 568,000 on paper from one of the families in Haryana. While Rs 350,000 was documented, there was no record on paper of Rs 218,000. When he did not return the money, the women of that house stood in front and blackmailed to file false molestation/rape cases against the lender.
Another boy named Gaurav confirmed that Rajesh Kumar had taken money from his father as well and had asked for time to return the same. Initially, he kept saying he will return the money. Gaurav said,
When my father met with an accident, we wanted money urgently. When I went to their home to ask for money, they threatened me with false rape case.
All the above Men and their families later came forward to teach these girls a lesson, since they too had undergone the nightmare of being blackmailed with false rape cases.

One elderly Sikh gentleman also said how the state government turned these con girls and their family into a Hero. He also confirmed that court too hears only one side of the statement….from the girl’s side.
Once the truth of the other side was unravelled, Barkha Dutt went missing on the issue……there was no apology or revised reporting from her on the same.
