Fiercely independent, my Ma chose to live life on her terms even when it was most inconvenient. Notice the white board behind her with numbers of doctors. Her strict instructions to all , if something happens to her these are the first people to call. I asked her why none of her kids feature on the board. She said Moms are the ones you fall back on in times of trouble and asked me to put her number on my emergency list instead.
Every Mom has a special power. Mine gave me wings to fly and the confidence that if anything ever goes wrong there is always Mom to help nurture me and put me back on my feet. #happymothersday to my Ma and all those great Mums out there.
National Girl Child Day 2020
Not just this but Union Minister Smriti Irani on National Girl Child Day 2020, took to Twitter to share a heartfelt post about her daughters Shanelle and Zoish. In her post dated January 23, 2020, she also invited others to share the stories about their daughters. She wrote,
Shanelle & Zoish – I’m proud to be their mother .. one a lawyer, the other hoping to follow her sister’s footsteps. Ever caring & confident, my daughters are my pride. Join us in celebrating your blessings, your daughter’s achievements using #MeriBetiMeraGarv
In the closing lines, she invited others to share achievements of their children using the hashtag #MeriBetiMeraGarv. She further informed while one of her daughters is a lawyer, the other is following her sister’s footsteps. Not just a heartfelt caption, she also shared a collage featuring her herself, two daughters and her husband.
Infact the only tweet retweeted by WCD minister on Father’s Day was that of a UP Police officer who wished his mother Happy Father’s Day for brining up her children in the absence of a father.

International Boy Child Day was celebrated on May 16, 2020, however, our Women & Child Ministry seems to also differentiate amongst genders of children. Expectedly, no one from the ministry cared to wish the boy child on this day.
It must be noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not tweeted any wishes on Mother’s Day this year and thus one can justify him not appreciating the fathers either. However, PM Modi had undertaken a massive exercise on Women’s Day celebrated earlier in March this year, wherein he handed over his twitter handle for a day to certain women achievers. Narendra Modi on March 08, 2020 tweeted,
Greetings on International Women’s Day! We salute the spirit and accomplishments of our Nari Shakti. As I’d said a few days ago, I’m signing off. Through the day, seven women achievers will share their life journeys and perhaps interact with you through my social media accounts.
Once again, there was no acknowledgement whatsoever on November 19, 2020 which happens to be International Men’s Day.

It is sad that any government who boasts of being a front runner for Gender Equality, conveniently ignores the plight of other gender – the Men. One can forever label the Indian society as patriarchal and thus give grounds for not treating Men on par with women, however, this signalling is in absolute contrast with the farce of Equal society we are aiming to become. Equality must be equal and cannot be one sided PR exercise only to please single gender.
Fathers are equally important! We are hopeful the same could change next year, else Men see no hope from any government at the centre!
