Kerala-based activist Rehana Fathima has been booked by the local police for posting a video on social media platforms in which her two minor children are painting on the activist’s semi-naked body.
A criminal case has been registered by Thiruvalla Police station in Pathanamthitta district against Fathima under
- Section 67 of the IT Act (electronically transmitting sexually explicit content)
- Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act for cruelty to child
The case was registered following a complaint by a local BJP OBC morcha leader. A police inspector said,
We are looking into how and why the video was uploaded. We are investigating.
Sharing the video on her Facebook, she wrote,
Any child who grows up seeing her mother’s body won’t be able to humiliate a woman’s body…
Here’s What Happened
Fathima had shared the clip, which was uploaded on YouTube through her Facebook account, and she also posted a note justifying the act. She wrote her kids had proceeded to paint on her body while she was resting due to an eye infection. The post carried the hashtag #BodyArtandPolitics and read:

About Rehana Fathima
In October 2018, Fathima sparked outrage by attempting to trek to Sabarimala temple along with a Hyderabad-based woman digital journalist. After a string of complaints, she has been dismissed from the service two months ago from BSNL in Ernakulam where she was working as a junior technician.

Last year she was arrested on a complaint filed by a rightwing activist claiming she hurt religious feelings of the Hindu community by posting an objectionable picture on social media. She was in jail for two months.
She was excommunicated by the Muslim Jamaath Council and her house was later vandalised by protestors as the news spread.
