In a recent turn of events in the Zomato Delivery Boy Bengaluru case, Electronic City police have decided to stop the investigation temporarily after not finding any evidence.
It may be recalled that on March 9, a social media beauty influencer named Hitesha Chandranee had accused Zomato Delivery Boy Kamaraj of assaulting her when he went to her home for food delivery. An investigating officer probing into alleged assault case told The New Indian Express,
We tried to find evidence, including CCTV footage, but so far nothing has been found and the premise has no CCTV camera. Meanwhile, the woman is just posting her comments in social media accounts and is not coming to the station for questioning after the delivery boy filed a case of assault. So there is nothing more to investigate merely based on allegations from the accused and woman.
A senior police officer further said that Hitesha Chandranee, who had accused the Zomato delivery boy Kamaraj of punching her, had informed them that she had gone to Maharashtra to meet her aunt when they called her to come for the questioning. A day later, media reported that she had left the city.
However, soon again she posted via her instagram account to claim that she had not gone anywhere. The police quoted to TNIE that they were also tracking her phone network location as part of the investigation. Her relatives told the police that Chandranee has health issues and had availed treatment in a private hospital. The officer added,
We had sought medical opinion from St John hospital and primary observation revealed that the injury which she had on her nose is not the kind of an assault or punch. However, we are waiting for the final report.
Background:
Chandranee had alleged that the duo had a verbal spat over the delay of the order. She then accused Kamaraj on punching her nose which led to a fracture.
On March 15, Kamaraj filed a counter FIR against Chandranee where he accused the woman of attacking him with slippers first. According to Zomato Delivery Boy, he was only defending her attack when her own hand hit her nose. Kamaraj also alleged that she tried to frame him by saying he punched her.
Soon after the incident on March 9, Chandranee had posted a video of the same through her instagram account which went viral. Zomato immediately suspended Kamaraj (as per procedure) and a day later police even arrested him and then released on station bail.
After Kamaraj shared his side of the story, Zomato was compelled to put out a balanced statement pending enquiry. In the current turn of events, it will best in the interest of brand Zomato to reinstate Kamaraj back in his job, especially when the woman has even failed to appear before police since a week.
The police must arrest Hitesha, if she has filed a false and fabricated complaint, instead of just suspending the investigation. A strong precedent must be set if the woman has been instrumental in destroying the career and image of a man. Unless this happens, other women who want to allegedly settle score or play victim, will have no fear yet again.
