Alaya F is the bright new starkid on the block and her debut vehicle with Saif Ali Khan, Jawaani Jaaneman releases this Friday. The young and super confident actress has been promoting her debut film and comes across as a very well brought up child who clearly knows what she is speaking.

Alaya, as most of us already know, is the daughter of Bollywood actor and newspaper columnist, Pooja Bedi and businessman Farhan Furniturewala. In her recent interview with online portal PinkVilla, the young girl talks about her relationship with parents who separated when she was five-years old. Bedi and Farhan were married from 1994 to 2003.

Alaya F Opens Up On Parents’ Divorce

Alaya opened up on her parents’ divorce and said it never made a difference to her life because her parents maintained a cordial relationship. She says,

I was 5 years old and I don’t really have that much memory of it. I had memory of years after that. I had a happy childhood and both my parents are still on great terms. Both my parents have always been happy. They never made me feel that something sad had happened. It was just a divorce and it’s okay.

Adding further Alaya also says,

Now, my father has remarried and I have another brother Zan who I love dearly. People ask me, How do you get along with your stepmother? I like her. I have never known otherwise.

Her mom Pooja too, is now engaged to businessman Maneck Contractor and on her way to settle down once again. Alaya says she shares a pleasant relationship with Maneck as well. She quoted:

I have a very good relationship with him (Maneck) too. They are all wonderful, happy people so I have also been happy with them.

Alaya’s film Jawaani Jaaneman also talks about the evolution of a relationship between a father and daughter and is clearly one of the more progressive tales of today’s times. It has Alaya playing a non-judgmental daughter who just wants to get in touch with her dad. She concludes by saying,

When people are happy, it’s so easy to be happy with them.

The credit for raising children of divorced parents in an absolutely normal and happy way, must be fully given to separated couple. It is only because of their ability to be mature and not turn bitter with each other, result in the good and cultured upbringing of their kids.

In case of Pooja, she has always been someone who has stood up for rights of women, but not at the cost of putting down Men. One of her balanced tweets in 2014 read,

Im pro alimony! But consideration must b given 2 number of married years/Reason 4 divorce/How many kids/Income of wife.

— Pooja Bedi (@poojabeditweets) December 17, 2014

In an interview to the DNA in 2006, Bedi said,

The laws here do not favour women enough for them to take any  advantage. In any case, in a country where most women are expected to give up everything after marriage to look after the home and kids, alimony is justified after divorce, especially when the wife is not financially independent.

The mother of two, who had divorced her husband some years ago, revealed that she herself didn’t demand maintenance for herself from her ex-husband. She then added,

I knew things would get ugly and it would affect my kids emotionally. Also, I knew I could do it on my own steam. So, I only asked for child support.

Besides this, Pooja has been a vocal supporter of Men’s Rights and was one of the panelist at the Men’s Commission Seminar conducted in September 2018 at New Delhi. She has also been at the fore of supporting the Times of India Campaign #MenToo, against the misuse of Rape Laws by some women in the country.

Pooja Bedi is one classic example of how mothers need not become vindictive or bitter when divorced, and move on happily and independently without denying access or love of the other separated parent to their children.
