The Uttar Pradesh unit head of Hindu Mahasabha was shot dead in Lucknow by unknown assailants on Sunday when he was out on a morning walk. A police official said Ranjeet Bachchan (40) was killed in an area which falls under the jurisdiction of the Hazratganj police station.
As per a news report by Zee News Hindi today, the police revealed gory details about Ranjit Bachchan’s murder in the city. According to the officials, Ranjit’s wife Smriti and her boyfriend were behind the murder. The police have arrested the accused.
Smriti is Ranjeet’s second wife. There was an ongoing divorce matter in court between the two which was not getting concluded. This had upset the woman to such an extent that she along with a friend, hatched the conspiracy to eliminate Ranjit Bachchan.

Lucknow Police also said that the wife was frustrated since the case was not ending due to which she was unable to get remarried. This is when she planned the murder with the help of her boyfriend.
The police and the STF team had searched the CDR, the call detail record of the mobile phones of the relatives of Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha president, after which the Mumbai connection of this murder was revealed. The police and the STF team later arrested the accused from a location in Mumbai. According to the police, the shooter fled to Mumbai by train after the executing Ranjeet.
Bachchan was shot dead on February 1 by assailants who came on a bike. The incident took place near Global Park in Hazratganj area. After the firing, the attackers fled from the spot. Bachchan was immediately taken to the Lucknow Trauma Center where he was declared dead.

Ranjit’s younger brother Aditya was also accompanying him at the time of incident and he too was injured in the firing. Four police officers including two PCR policemen, a constable and an outpost in-charge were suspended after the murder. The police had also released the CCTV footage of the murder suspect and announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information about the whereabouts of any suspect.
The Lucknow police had earlier on Wednesday detained four persons in connection with the murder. The four were detained by the Special Task Force of the Lucknow police from Gorakhpur and Raebareli.
