The government of India and respective state governments have been advising citizens and others not to gather at any spot in a group, which could lead to the spread of corona virus disease. However, on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, there was a huge ruckus at Arjun Nagar in Safdurjung area of New Delhi.
An Ugandan national was seen abusing the cops and pelting stones at them in the middle of the road. Later, she accused the police of molesting and attempting to rape her. A passerby also captured the video of this 23-year-old woman, however, due to Supreme Court guidelines, we are unable to share the same.
What Happened?
The African woman is in India along with her father for his medical treatment. While she was residing in the NCR region of Gurugram, she had visited Safdurjung on Friday night and was seen gathering on the road with a bunch of friends. Delhi police who was on night patrol asked the women not to congregate as per COVID2019 guideline, however, this is when the woman allegedly started creating a ruckus.

One of the senior police officers quoted,
Two of our policemen from Safdurjung police station were patrolling at 11:30pm on Friday night. They saw a few women standing by the roadside in a group, and asked them to return to their homes.
One of the woman suddenly started arguing with our officer and started abusing him in Hindi. She also pelted stones at them later. The passerby man who was recording their video, was also attacked.
According to the officer, the drama went on for nearly 20-minutes and lady cop had to be called in. The Ugandan national allegedly also undressed herself amidst the commotion. When she was taken for a medical check-up, any form of sexual abuse was ruled out.

The woman’s lawyer, Shahab Ahmad, has also given his version of the story. He quoted:
At 12:15am, I heard noise coming from the main road. When I reached there, I saw a woman completely naked in front of three police officers. She had come to meet her female friend, but the cops tried to molest and rape her.
I have written to the senior officers as well as the Ugandan embassy, but so far haven’t received any reply.
We sincerely hope that the truth in the matter unfolds soon. At a time when the world is fighting unanimously against the dreadful COVID2019, all we can hope is a little co-operation from every individual, while the police and others are merely doing their duty.
We also urge the Delhi Police to take strict action, if the case turns out to be false and frivolous just to settle score.
