A woman has lodged a police complaint of rape against veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty’s son and actor Mahaakshay alias Mimoh at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai. Speaking to news agency IANS, Senior Police Inspector Dayanand H Bangar said,
We have lodged the complaint and are investigating the matter.
The complainant has also named Mimoh’s mother (Mithun’s wife) and former actress Yogeeta Bali as co-accused who allegedly threatened and intimated her not to go public.
Case:
The complainant claimed that she was in a relationship with Mimoh since 2015 and he had promised to marry her, however, later backtracked. She alleged that Mimoh called her home at that point in time and spiked her drink, before forcibly making physical relations with her.
She also alleged that when she became pregnant, Mimoh forced her to abort and when she refused he gave her some pills that terminated her pregnancy. The woman also claimed that she was threatened by Mimoh’s mother when she was to lodge a police complaint.
Even earlier when Mahaakshay was about to get married in 2018, the victim tried to get an FIR registered in the rape case, but when the police did not register the case, she shifted to Delhi where she appealed to Rohini Court to file an FIR. On the basis of prima facie evidences, the court ordered to register an FIR in the case and investigate. Now, on the basis of this, a case has been registered at Oshiwara police station in Mumbai on Thursday (after 2-years of court order).
Mimoh got married to television serial actress Madalasa Sharma in 2018. Mahaakshay, 36, made his Bollywood debut with “Jimmy” (2008), besides acting in films like “Haunted 3D”, “Loot”, “Enemmy”, and “Ishqedarriyaana etc.
Rape on pretext of marriage is highly debatable matter and there have been several judgements on how a failed relationship or a man refusing to marry after consensual physical relations cannot be termed as rape. This is yet again one of the gender biased laws, where women can choose to dump several men before marriage and marry their ‘right man’, however, men could end up paying the price of refusal on account of various reasons such as compatibility, etc.
Timing of registering FIR in this case is also strange, since Delhi court had ordered a case in 2018 itself. However, the woman choosing to now lodge formal complaint in 2020 at a Mumbai police station could also raise questions.
