Accused Of Murder Since Seven Years, Husband Tracks Dead Wife Living With Paramour & His Child

A man who had been accused of murdering his wife managed to track her down after a struggle of seven years in Odisha. The man had been accused of murder in 2013. Identified as Abhaya Sutar, the husband located his wife and her paramour with the help of the police and proved that the charges filed against him were false.

Case:

• Abhaya got married to Itishree Moharana on February 7, 2013
• Abhaya is a native of Chaulia village in Kendrapara. Allegedly, Itishree was forced to marry Abhaya.
• Just within two months after her marriage, Itishree went missing and Abhaya approached the police
• On April 20, 2013, Abhaya lodged a missing complaint of his wife with the Patkura Police
• On May 14, 2013, Itishree’s father Prahallad Moharana lodged a counter-complaint claiming that Abhaya had tortured his daughter for dowry
• In his complaint, Prahallad claimed that Abhaya had killed his daughter and dumped her body
• After filing the counter-complaint, the police arrested Abhaya
• Although he was released on bail after one month

• It is then that he started searching for his wife as he was suspicious of her
• Abhaya was certain that his wife had eloped with someone and hence, he was keen on tracing her
• The husband managed to collect information about the woman and learned that she had been living in Pipili with her paramour
• After learning about Itishree’s location, the accused called the police and informed them
• The police accompanied Abhaya to Pipili and arrested Itishree along with her paramour
• The woman’s paramour has been identified as Rajiv Lochan Moharana

Sujit Pradhan, a senior official deployed with the Patkura police told TOI,

Both were produced in the court of the sub-divisional judicial magistrate in Kendrapara on Monday and statements were recorded under section  Section 164 of CrPC. In her statement, Itishree said that she had been in an affair with Rajiv before marriage but her parents forced her to wed Abhaya.

An investigation revealed that Itishree and Rajiv had eloped to Gujarat initially and lived there for around seven years. Recently, the couple had returned to Odisha. Itishree and Rajiv also have two children out of wedlock.

Abhaya said,

When police failed to locate Itishree, I decided to take matters into my own hands. In these seven years, I have visited many places to track her down. Now that I have proved my innocence, I am a satisfied man.

Interestingly several such stories are reported in regional media daily, but somehow the English media refrains from putting out all such cases. While this report from Odisha has been covered, the bias of english media towards crimes by men, ensures the other side never becomes a matter of debate in civil society.
