In a shocking story reported by Punjab Kesari from Buxar in Bihar, a man was thrashed and beaten by the bride’s father and her brothers, after the wedding rituals were completed.
The man was not just attacked, but also robbed of family’s lakhs of jewellery, including his gold chain and ring.
Case:
The incident took place after the wedding ceremony, of groom Anil Mishra and bride Rekha Kumari, daughter of Upendra Mishra, who is a resident of Kerahasi village, was completed. At around 2:30 am post all rituals, man’s father-in-law initiated a conversation with him, which did not go well. It is then that Upendra started abusing the Anil.
It so happened that Rekha’s father forced his son-in-law to accept some amount, which was not agreeable to the groom. When Anil denied to take any cash, his heavily drunk father in-law and brothers-in-law started thrashing him and his family. Soon, there was a major commotion at the venue.
The woman’s family did not stop at the attack. They snatched a gold chain worth Rs 1,50,000 from the groom’s neck and also some gold rings that were worn by Anil’s uncle and brother. The groom’s relatives were harmed with some serious injuries. Later, the man’s family somehow rushed to the Sadar hospital to get themselves treated first.

He (the accused father-in-law) was giving me money for food. I denied accepting the same since I didn’t need his money. I work for my living and even if I earn less, it is satisfactory for me, however I won’t accept money from anybody. I don’t need any charity neither I am asking for dowry.

Even my parents were in agreement and against any exchange of dowry. Thus, I firmly refused any money on the day of the wedding from my father-in-law.
Anil also went onto state:
I even bought jewellery for my wife worth Rs 6,50,000. The gold chain (worth Rs 1,50,000) which I purchased is now in possession of my in-laws. When I refused to take money, their family, half of them who were drunk, started surrounding me and my family and then thrashed us. My father-in-law and brothers-in-law, Amit, Deepak, and Sonu, were not only drunk but had also consumed drugs.
We also had children around who were manhandled by my in-laws.
