Wife And In-Laws Pour Oil On Husband And Burn Him Alive

Bride burning in India is a reality, however, the number of cases seem to have drastically gone down. We have often heard stories of women being beaten when the groom’s family demands more money, which then escalates in dousing them with flammable liquid and setting them on fire.

However, in a reverse case reported by Punjab Kesari, a husband has been set on fire by his wife and in-laws in Amritsar. A dispute between the wife and husband has led to the death of a young man in Punjab. The death has been described as ‘so traumatic’ that it even left the spectators shocked.

Rakesh Kumar had visited his wife Pooja Sharma‘s home to celebrate her birthday, however, he was burnt alive by his wife, brother-in-law and his family. Rakesh was rushed to a private hospital for treatment, however, he succumbed to his injuries.

The local police have registered a complaint given by Rakesh’ father, Ferati Lal, resident of Ludhiana and among those who have been accused of torching Rakesh are his wife Pooja Sharma, brother-in-law Manoj Kumar, Manoj’s wife Sweta and his son Rathv. The accused have gone underground after the incident.

Ferati Lal told police that the dispute flared up to such an extent that his son was first severely beaten by his wife’s family. They later allegedly poured oil on him and burnt him alive in front of Lal’s eyes. 

While many reading this piece of news could well pass this off as a ‘one-off case’. However, the society must acknowledge and understand that husbands are equally prone to domestic violence, physical assaults and as in this case, even murder by wife’s family. Crime literally has no gender.

In a recent story reported from Mumbai, a wife, along with her lover, had poured hot boiling oil on her husband and also gave him electric shocks.
