Domestic violence happens on women…True…however, domestic violence happens only on women is an extremely biased mindset that exists within our society today. And we cannot blame people in general, because that is how the mainstream media have forced us to believe over the years.
There are several cases where the husband or even a father is a silent sufferer, yet he often fails to speak up or revolt against the harsh abuse he would be facing for decades — largely because he is the man.
One such case has been reported from Salt Lake, Kolkata, where fortunately the man has recorded the incident on camera. The below clip is of a married couple, ironically from the ‘city of joy’ where we can see the husband been thrashed by the wife.
Background
Few months ago, Jyotirmay Majumdar, an engineer from Kolkata had left his old parents at Baidyabati to keep them safe from the pandemic situation. However, during Unlock 1 that commenced in June, he went and got his parents back to his home. The wife got extremely upset at this and also alleged that her in-laws were going to bring the virus into their house.

However, the real story as it goes in most homes, the woman did not appreciate her husband to make his parents live in his own home. This is why she got agitated, beat her husband, slapped him, poked pins and also burnt him with a cigarette.
According to the man, this wasn’t one off incident and since his wife beats him almost regularly, he decided to record the same on his phone.
Police Inaction
According to the husband, the Bidhannagar police station refused to lodge an FIR saying that the laws are pro-women. After much persuasion, they just registered a mere complaint. Further, the accused woman has not even been summoned to the police station yet.
The man has now approached the Court to get remedy.
Watch What Husband Has To Say (In Bengali)
Independent Journalist Deepika Bhardwaj shared how the absence of a Men’s Commission led to man facing extreme domestic abuse even after reporting the matter to the police station. On Friday she wrote,
Jyotirmay Majumdar filed a complaint on 10th June but no action was taken by @KolkataPolice since he’s a “man” His wife slapped, kicked & even burnt him with cigarette but this isn’t violence enough for cops to take action against wife in India AND – There’s no #MensCommission

Domestic Violence on men is as much as reality as the same is for other gender. However, government of India overlooks the same as one off cases. One can imagine how women are being let off despite video evidences.
In cases where men/husbands lodge or even utter a verbal complaint, it is instead them who are mocked and ridiculed for getting beaten up.
