Uttar Pradesh Advocate Ends His Life; Names Wife & Mother-in-Law In Suicide Note

Yet another suicide of a husband has been reported from Subhash Nagar of Sikanderpur town in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh. The deceased ended his life as he was fed up with daily domestic family problems.

30-year-old Vipin Nigam, son of Vichitra Lal, was an advocate by profession. He was married to one Priyanka who was a resident of Phaphund town from the state. The couple had been married for past six years (2014) and had no children. Vipin has made several serious allegations against his wife and mother-in-law in the suicide note.

The advocate hanged himself in his home on Friday morning which led to utter chaos in his family. The reason behind Vipin ending his life with daily domestic harassment faced by him. When his brother saw the dead body, he brought him down from the noose and reported the matter to the local police.

Incharge Ajab Singh reached the spot and questioned the family members. Husband’s family informed police how their son was troubled by domestic intimidation and pestering by wife and his in-laws. They also informed the in-charge that Vipin had left Priyanka at his in-laws’ place just two days ago and since then he was living in despair.

Vipin was the eldest of his four brothers and practiced law in Chhibramau tehsil. The police sent his body for postmortem. Inspector in charge Shailendra Kumar Mishra said,

The body has been sent for post-mortem. The allegations made in the suicide note will be investigated.

Suicides of husbands go unrecorded in India and are merely categorised as male deaths. Men whether married or unmarried, are equally prone to domestic violence and daily abuse, however, due to the fear of gender biased laws and threats of false cases, many choose to end their lives, often at a very young age.

Several media outlets will publish stories on how women are the only sufferers at the hands of men. While there is no denying that women have been suffering over the years, it gives us no reason to ignore the other side of this menace. Most often people are embarrassed to speak up against violence on men, until someone from their own family goes through the same.

In another video which is going viral on social media, constable Vijay Gaud too ended his life after leaving this last video. He has held his wife and in-laws responsible for his death. The constable says, his own police department did not listen to his side after his wife filed a complaint.
