498A, Domestic Violence and Maintenance – These are the three cases filed by a woman on her husband and in-laws, for a marriage that lasted for four months. After staying at her maternal home for nearly 3-years, she has returned and got into in-laws’s home without any court order.

Husband’s Father Side
My son got married on October 31, 2017 and the girl returned to her home on February 20, 2018. After going back, she filed 3 cases against us under Section 498A, DV Act and Maintenance. In between, her mother agreed for Rs 13 lakh settlement and I had already prepared two cheques of Rs 6.5 lakh each to be handed over in court. However, suddenly, our daughter-in-law’s mother started demanding additional Rs 20,000 and the matter remained pending. Their demands are now increasing. They want us to sell this house and give the woman 1/5th of her share. If I sell this house, where will we go?
On February 28, 2021, our daughter-in-law who had been living at her mother’s home since 3-years, suddenly came here and sat outside our home. When I went to the market, she started throwing stones, threatened us and got into the house. She has locked up herself along with my wife and daughter since then, while I and my son are staying outside, due to fear of new false cases against us. I am living at my elder brother’s home whereas, my son is living on rent.
Since 18-days, we have been approaching police to help us but no one has come to our rescue. If I go up, she will frame me in some new case.
She leaves water tanks open, and when all the water is finished, she accuses us of harassing her. Through these days, I just sent my sister once upstairs with food items to be delivered to my wife and daughter. This woman (daughter-in-law) started recording videos again. She is trying to trap us anyhow. When cases are in court, let the court decide. She was living at her house since 3-years. If she wants to enter the house, let it be through court order, not by force.
Several Neighbours Outside Husband’s Home
These are all false cases. These people have been living here since 30-years and we have never heard them raising their voice. Its all about money. Both husband and wife (in-laws) are very decent people. We know them very well.
Woman left her home and claimed that her husband was physically unfit. Another elderly neighbour claims that the girl had already taken some money prior to marriage. She also alleges that the girl’s side barely put Rs 4 lakh total during marriage, however, were now demanding more than Rs 13 lakh.
Girl’s Mother
Journalists repeatedly asks woman’s mother to speak so that her side can be covered as well. She keeps making excuses initially, however, later opens up. She quotes,
All their allegations are totally false. Boy was physically unfit.
When journalist questions her of Rs 13 lakh as settlement, wife’s mother concurs to the agreement having taken place. Mother alleges that when her daughter informed her in-laws about her husband being impotent, husband’s mother asked them to remain friends and adopt a child.
She questions why can’t they get their son medically treated for the same? She further states that while she had agreed for Rs 13 lakh settlement, she also wanted to account for her bedsheets, dinner sets, etc. that she had given. She says,
My child returned home in one pair of clothes. They even took away all her gold. They only agreed for Rs 13 lakh when we filed for maintenance.
Later, the mother changes her statement and says now we don’t want Rs 13 lakh. She wants her daughter to live in her in-laws’ house only. When journalist questions her why does she want her child to live with a physically unfit man? To this, the mother repeats that he should get himself treated by doctors..
Police Statement
Police who had been in the house through this public showdown, finally comes out from the house, where they had been trying to console the woman. Husband’s family questions him until when will this drama go on. Police says matter is in court and let the court decide. He also informs husband’s father to take police along with him, whenever he wants to entire his (own) home. The officer is heard saying that SDM informed him how husband’s family backtracked from agreement.
Husband’s father pleads that his life is in danger as daughter-in-law and her mother are calling people from outside.
In the interim, wife’s mother accuses one of the neutral persons of questioning her daughter, when she dated her would-be husband for one year before marriage.
The gentleman had allegedly posed a question, as to how the woman never realised that her would-be husband was impotent, especially when they courted each other for a year and the same was a love marriage.
Woman’s mother rubbishes this and says…
Our girls dont do these things.
