Uttar Pradesh Girl Fakes Own Kidnap; Demands Rs 1 Crore From Her Family

On Saturday, in a shocking incident, a 19-year-old girl has been arrested for allegedly planning her own abduction drama along with the assistance of her boyfriend. The girl also demanded Rs 1 crore as ransom money from her family in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh.

What Happened?

The incident took place in the district’s Nagla Bhajna village under the territorial jurisdiction of Maehara Police. According to UP police, the girl went missing on Thursday night. Later, she herself posed as the kidnapper and made several calls in Haryanavi tone to her parents and demanded ransom. Subsequently, her family which was extremely worried, sought help from the police.

Investigation

Police immediately got into action and launched a search for the “abducted girl”, assuming the involvement of some professional kidnapper in the case. However, while investigating, the police officials sensed several loopholes due to “continuous negotiations and long-hour calls” by the kidnapper. This is when they placed the girl’s mobile number, which she had taken along, on surveillance and tracked her. Rahul Kumar, Superintendent of Police (crime), Etah told TOI,

It was later found out that she was using her phone for a ransom call. On Saturday, she was found just a couple of hundred meters from her home.

Background

The girl and her boyfriend are neighbours. They have been in a relationship for past two years, however, the family of the girl were opposed to this relationship. Recently, the girl learnt about her family planning to open a school with an investment of Rs 1 crore. Thus, she plotted her own kidnapping to extort the money and elope with her lover.

The girl has been detained for police interrogation from a nearby farm, while her boyfriend managed to escape from the spot. Police efforts are underway to nab him. The officer said a police team has been deployed to trace her boyfriend. He quoted,

We will lodge an FIR against the duo once we ascertain the sequence of event.
