The Bengaluru police arrested a 38-year-old woman who had been trapping several men through matrimonial websites. The accused woman would upload her profile, allegedly develop consensual relationship with men and then blackmail them for ransom.
East Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) SD Sharanappa informed media that the arrested woman has been identified as Kavitha CS, a resident of Devaiah Park in East Bengaluru.
Case:
According to the police, Kavitha formerly worked as a teacher in a government school in Chikkamagaluru district for some time, however, she was terminated from the services for her alleged insubordination as well as remaining absent for a very long period. The police said,
She had faced a case after her school headmaster booked a complaint against her alleging that she had assaulted him by falsely making accusations.
Kavitha was exposed when a victim – a resident of Indiranagar – narrated his ordeal to the police alleging that the accused had involved him in a false rape case. The police added,
The victim works in a private firm, with whom the accused got in touch through the matrimonial site and befriended him. After dating for sometime through chats, they met and entered into a consensual relationship. The accused recorded their encounters and started blackmailing him.
Continuing further the police said,
After the duo exchanged numbers, Kavitha visited his house on December 26. She recorded their private moments on her laptop and blackmailed him. She took away a gold chain from the victim and demanded money, failing which she threatened to file rape charges.
Woman Was Negotiating With Man Outside Police Station
On December 29, Kavitha approached Indiranagar police to file a sexual harassment complaint against the man. After being summoned, police warned the then accused. The two went outside the police station and spoke for some time, following which Kavitha withdrew her complaint saying they had solved the issue.
When they stepped out of the police station and spoke privately, Kavitha demanded Rs 5 lakh from the man for not filing the complaint. He negotiated and agreed to give her Rs 2 lakh. He tried transferring the money the same night, but was unable to do so, reported The Deccan Herald.
On December 31, she went to the police station again and told police that the man had raped her after promising marriage. Fortunately, accused man recorded the conversation and subsequently filed a complaint against the con woman. Based on the complaint, the police arrested Kavitha.
Inspector Ramamurthy took down her details and checked online records, where he found she had complained twice against different individuals as well. The two cases had been charge-sheeted, a senior officer said.
Repeat Offender
The investigations revealed that Kavitha had earlier filed rape cases against two persons in Malleswaram and Mahadevapura police station as well.
The Bengaluru East police is now investigating how long Kavitha was running the racket and appealed to the public that whoever is her victim can reach them.
