A shocking case has come to light from the Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. The same state which is notorious for having an Anti-Romeo squad which randomly picks up boys and pronounces instant justice.
A girl who was deeply in one-sided obsessive love, attacked a young man with a blade. The injury left the boy with deep cuts on the right side of his face. Currently, the victim has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. However, not so shockingly for Men’s Day Out, so far no complaint has been lodged by the police on behalf of the young man.
According to the report, the matter is related to a college located in Hafizganj police station area of Bareilly. Both the boy and girl were studying in this same college. The schoolgirl was believed to be in love with the boy, however, there was no reciprocation from the boy’s side towards the feelings of the girl. Many a times the girl student had also forcefully proposed to him, but the boy did not show any interest. This triggered the accused to such an extent that she decided to attack and permanently scar the boy’s face with a blade.

The report further states that the boy was keenly interested in his studies, but the girl was constantly pressurising him to get married. When the boy categorically denied any feelings for this girl, she violently attacked his face with a blade in a public area. Seeing the boy bleed, the girl too allegedly fainted. The accused was also heard saying,
You are so proud of your good looks…let me spoil them forever.

The injured boy is currently not in a position to speak. He has several blade marks on his face. His mother is worried, upset and constantly crying seeing her child’s state.
The principal of the college has issued a statement that the incident has taken place outside the college, and both students had passed their exams and moved on. SP (rural) has also given a statement that they only received this information from the media. He said,
Both the boy and girl are minors. So far no complaint has been made with the police.
Will our society equally outrage and run hashtag campaigns for such cases? Or we shall limit our angst only when the accused is a male? #MenToo need a forum of justice like the National Commission for Women, to ensure absolute fairness in all such matters where they are the victims.
