Suicides by husbands due to matrimonial disputes, and threats by in-laws are on the rise in India. However, most of these cases do not get published by mainstream English media and remain limited on regional portals only. In yet another shocking incident reported from Pune, a young married man died by suicide due to alleged harassment by his father-in-law.
The matter is under investigation by local police.
Case:
29-year-old Nikhil Dhotre, a resident of Sugam Chali in Shivajinagar-Gokhalenagar in Pune, ended his life on Sunday evening after strangulating himself to death with his wife’s duppatta (clothing). The victim has left a suicide note which directly accuses his father-in-law of constant harassment, which had left the victim in debt.
In his note, Dhotre also urged Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to take strict action against those who drove him to end his life. The note was also addressed to his mother where he expressed,
Aai (mother), don’t worry, I will be born as your son again. Please understand and take care of my baby…
Nikhil was married a year ago and his wife is nine months pregnant. Rupesh Temgire, Sub-inspector of Police, Chaturshrungi police station told esakal that the body had been sent to hospital for autopsy.
MDO Note:
To all men in distress who are facing challenges in personal/matrimonial life, there are many Men’s Rights NGOs working on ground to help you cope with the situation, especially when every single law is in favour of the woman. Please do not take the extreme step, consult these NGOs and express your problems. There will be a way out. Suicide is not an option. Such steps only leave your ageing parents helpless and struggling for justice for the rest of their lives.
