In a recent video by NewJ that went viral on social media, a woman and her adult son are seen pulling and dragging husband outside a family court in Patna, Bihar.
As per the video, a divorce matter has been ongoing between the couple where the wife alleges desertion by husband, while on the other hand, husband accuses his wife, children and in-laws of harassment and demand for money. The incident took place outside Hajipur Court in the city.
Case:
Abhay Kumar Singh and Mamta Kumari got married in 2001. They have a 20-year-old daughter and an 18-year-old son. Abhay is working as a teacher in Patna.
According to Mamata, her husband’s brother had filed five cases against her. Her grudge was that husband had left home since past two years and not even turning up at court.
Thus, when he arrived at court this time, she latched onto him and refused to let him go.
Husband’s Version
Husband had a different version though. Abhay said that he left home due to the harassment he was facing by wife and children. His son and daughter had gone completely out of his control and he had no say in his own home. He further added that he had provided his children with the best of lifestyle as per his capacity and also the necessary education as a responsible father.
He shared that he sent their daughter to study in Hyderabad but she skipped all her exams. On being asked about the reason behind his frustration, Singh responded that his son often hangs out late at night and doesn’t listen to him. He quoted,
Neither the daughter is in my control nor the son is in my control.
Singh further said that his wife demands money from him and asks him to live separately, while her brother threatens to beat him up. He even claimed of having a recording to prove the allegations.
A policeman is seen intervening, but taking no action against the physically abusive wife. At the end of the video, he says, it is a “Family Matter” and they will investigate.
Why is it always about Rights of a Wife? What about Rights of a Husband? According to Courts, Wife is not a property of husband. Then, how can a man be forced to live with an allegedly abusive family?
This is not even about Men’s Rights, it is a basic Human Right which cannot be snatched from anyone to encourage appeasement of one particular gender.
